Make your own waterproof map by printing directly on plastic film. . .
Garbage Bag film.
This is not a simple laminated paper map.
The final result of this simple project is a 100% plastic map that is thinner, lighter and more durable than paper.
Of course, you can buy plastic paper by printing waterproof maps, but it is expensive and usually thicker and harder than ordinary paper;
Make it difficult to fold into a pocket-sized ready-made reference.
The picture produced by this process is only a little thicker than the garbage bag;
This is waterproof and, most importantly, can be folded (or crumpled)
The filling in the pocket is not damaged.
Water is the nemesis for printing paper maps.
When the ink flows into the paper, it produces a very rainbow effect.
Abstract art is good, but it is useless for directional movement.
I like to print my own area map when we go hiking.
Maps, maybe terrain (Topo)
Map, and road map of path head or pick directionup point.
The method that has been used for years is to separate the hiking map from the elements stored in the plastic bag at the top of the zipper.
Folded into quarters, it looks like the map on the left below.
However, it keeps the map dry, and the folded bag seems to fit only the square cargo pants pocket, and in the end, folding and exhibition sessions have an impact on the bag and the paper inside.
Also, the map is always possible to get wet every time the bag is opened.
Many times the bag has to be opened in order to shuffle the various parts of the trail.
This method works to a large extent and I may continue to carry the main map this way.
But sometimes, especially when traveling in a familiar area, just go through the map quickly and confirm whether the route you want is on the left or right.

It is important to understand the limitations of this process.
The plastic film shrinks when heated, so the map scale will no longer be correct (i. e.
1/1/4 will no longer be equal to 1 mile, etc. )
Fidelity of fine map details can be difficult to discern.
The printer ink does not enter the plastic film, so the surface tension of the ink will blur the small text and details.
Despite these shortcomings, the process will produce a reusable map suitable for use in the worst weather, or as a very compact emergency backup, stuffed in the shirt pocket for reference

Ordinary printing paper (1)
A quart of transparent plastic sandwich bags (1)
White plastic kitchen garbage bag tool: use inkjet printer * clothes iron ironing board or other heat-resistant surface tool knife or sissors * the process was developed for inkjet printer.
Do not try to use a laser printer.
The heat used to melt toner may have an adverse effect on plastic coated paper and may cause glue-

Cut off a white film from a white kitchen garbage bag.
White film blank should be about 10 inch by 7 inch.
The blank is smaller than the standard 8.
Printer paper 5x11 inch letter size.
This is to avoid the possibility of plastic sticking out the paper and contacting the hot iron directly.
Note: when passing through the garbage bag, there will be two sheets of paper stacked together, be sure to separate the blanks of the two sheets of paper.
Only a single thickness of white plastic film is required.
Cut off the zip top of the 1 quart take-off sandwich bag. 1.
Cut 5 inch off the bottom of the bag.
This will create a 10 inch long clear film blank when the bag is unfolded in the next step. 2.
Sew the two sides of the bag (photo 2)
Bags are allowed to be opened (photo 3)
Note: the width of a quart-sized bag is the same as the width of the white film blank that was previously cut.
Similarly, the final size of white film blank and transparent film blank should be smaller than the letter paper to avoid direct contact with the hot iron with plastic.
Place the white film blank plastic sheet between the two print sheets.
The goal is to make a paper/plastic/paper \"sandwich\" that will be combined together in the next steps.
Any exposed plastic, if in direct contact with iron, can cause a sticky mess.
Ordinary clothes iron for heating before paper/plastic/paper \"sandwich\"heat the iron -
Set with cotton/linentemeratureting (
Usually the highest setting).
Note: the temperature of the iron may vary, so if you peel off the paper in step 8, notice that the plastic has been broken down and melted by the Lacey hole, back to the temperature setting, press on the \"sandwich\" with light to medium pressure and keep the iron moving at a steady rate for about 30 seconds. (
Like spreading icing on a cake or painting with a brush)
Keep the iron running;
Don\'t stop on paper.
In 30 seconds, be sure to play a few times on the entire page.
In particular, make sure to cross the edges several times to ensure that the edges of the plastic are combined with the paper.
Repeat the paper/plastic/paper \"sandwich\" and ironing process with clear film blank.
Make a new paper/plastic/paper \"sandwich\" stack using the other two print sheets.
Ironing transparent plastic sandwiches in the same way as before.
Note: This is the \"sandwich\" of transparent plastic \".
Don\'t create double-
By stacking on the original white plastic \"sandwich\", Decker \"sandwich \".

A movie is very clear
Peel off a print sheet from a white plastic ironing \"sandwich.
Make sure the pressed \"sandwich\" has been completely cooled before stripping.
Don\'t tear the paper before you are ready to print.
Start at the corner and leave carefully and slowly.
The plastic must be glued to the second piece of paper.
Discard the removed sheet paper.
The third photo shows a good example of a fully bonded plastic film.
Due to the tension of cooling the plastic, the page with exposed plastic coating will curl slightly.
Gently handle;
At this point, you don\'t want to disperse the bonding between plastic and paper.
This paper is the substrate that passes the plastic film through the printer, so the plastic film must be fully glued to it to prevent the printer from clogging up.
There may be some layering during processing.
The small amount shown in the last photo should be fine.
The most important edge to fully glue is to enter the forefront of the printer.
Note: If the plastic film is not fully bonded to another piece of paper after stripping a piece of paper, replace the top sheet and re-glue
Iron \"sandwich \"-
Add a little time and pressure if possible, and/or slightly increase the temperature.
Peel off a print sheet from a transparent plastic ironing \"sandwich.
Make sure that the pressed \"sandwich\" has been completely cooled before the corner starts and peeled carefully and slowly.
The plastic must be glued to the second piece of paper.
Discard the removed sheet paper.
This is the same process as the white film, but the transparent film does not pass through the printer.
Select, crop, and adjust your map to print as soon as you peel off the plastic.
Don\'t let the peeled bare plastic coated paper wait.
Ready to print.
Before you have a chance to print on a movie, it will reduce the chance of film layering.
Select a map with no fine details or small fonts.
Due to the nature of the process, there will be some loss of granularity.
Also, reduce the size of the map.
Keep in mind that the plastic film does not extend to the edge of the paper, so the map should be less than a full letterhead.
Place the plastic coated paper plastic sideways in the printer carton.
The printer paper loads differently between printers, so please load the film coated paper to print the map on the plastic film side.
Black ink works best.
The small area of the color is good, but black and white printing will produce the best effect.
Print in draft mode.
The less ink the better.
Higher quality printing settings will provide more ink;
This is usually better on paper, however, due to the surface tension of the liquid, a large amount of ink on the plastic can lead to more ink beads/migration.
Once ready, send the map to the printer and make sure it prints directly on the plastic film.
Place the paper with bare clear film on the printed map and seal it with an iron.
After printing the map, the white film (with fresh ink)
Should still stick on paper.
Put this paper (film side up)
On the surface of the ironing board.
Immediately, the paper with adhesive transparent film is then placed on the map.
Transparent film should now be in contact with white film.
This will create the following \"sandwich\" layers: paper bonded with bonded transparent film/ink/white film to avoid moving/moving the transparent film layer on the map, this will apply the still fresh ink.
Iron the \"sandwich\" at the same temperature as before \".
Because you glue the plastic with the plastic that is prone to occurrence, it takes less time.
\"After the sandwich has cooled, both sheets of paper can be peeled off from the plastic map.
After ironing, the transparent top film should be fully bonded to the white film.

After cooling, the map can be stripped from two sheets of paper.

Print using draft mode.

A lot of ink will add liquid beads and apply. 4.
Print in black and white.
Color maps can be made, as shown in the figure, but color ink (
At least the ink used here)
It is easier to dissolve in water;
Tend to bead the most, the easiest to apply before applying a transparent top film.
The big fields of colored ink look messy and blurry.
The black ink is more stable and clearer;
It is less migrated. 5.
Select a map with no fine details or small fonts.
As mentioned earlier, this process will produce a reference map ready quickly, but it is waterproof and not a perfect quality master map.
Due to the interaction between ink and plastic during printing, a certain amount of ink beads will inevitably be produced.
This is not a problem to a large extent;
Clear routes and details will be clear.
However, smaller details/fonts can be difficult to discern.
