If New Zealand wants to stop millions of plastic shopping bags from being wasted, it needs to become \"brave\" to burn plastic, a packaging agency said.
Paul Curtis, executive director of the packaging board, said there was no reason not to use plastic wrap and shopping bags as fuel.
His comments were made when supermarket chains food and retailer warehouses began planning to charge shoppers for plastic bags to reduce the number of tips to enter the garbage.
The packaging board claims to be \"the voice of the industry on policies that affect packaging and packaging waste\" and hopes to reduce the environmental impact of packaging by promoting alternatives.
