diy capacitive stylus

Most smartphones and tablets have capacitive touch screens.
This is an impressive technology that allows you to interact directly with the screen using only your fingers.
But there is a problem with this interface, the finger food is messy.
No one wants stripes everywhere on the screen.
One way to solve this problem is to use an interactive stylus.
But when you can make one free of charge from your daily necessities, you don\'t need to spend a lot of money on a commercial stylus.
In this Instructure I will share with you some of my favorite DIY capacitive stylus designs.
There are several different types of capacitive sensing.
But in general, they all work by using a series of sensors to monitor the electrostatic field around the screen.
When your finger touches the screen, it changes the capacitance of that part of the screen.
This is the voltage change detected at different positions.
The microprocessor captures, filters and analyzes data.
Then calculate the position coordinates where the touch occurs.
You can read more about capacitive sensing here: using a stylus, the same principle.
The only difference is that the stylus acts as a conductor, transmitting the charge between your hand and your phone.
The capacitive stylus must meet several standards in order to work properly. 1.
Conductive surface: it must be able to charge between your hand and the screen.
If the material is too resistant, or the distance between your hand and the screen is too large, the signal to reach the screen may be too weak to detect. 2.
At least 1/4 wide: when filtering data, the processor ignores areas much smaller than the human fingertips.
This helps to avoid unintentional activation.
The stylus with approximately 1/4 inchwiide will ensure that there is sufficient surface area for testing. 3.
A relatively flat end: there is a flat tip that ensures that the entire face is close enough to the screen to be detected. 4.
Smooth surface: this will make sure you don\'t scratch the screen.
Following these criteria, you can find a variety of common items that can be used to activate the capacitive touch screen.
This is my five favorite DIY capacitive stylus designs.
The back end of many metal pens can be used as a stylus without any modification.
The more metal in the pen, the more sensitive and reliable it is.
When choosing a pen, be careful to avoid shiny plastic that looks like metal.
This is probably the most convenient stylus as it can be used as both a pen and a stylus.
Negative end of battery (
Such as AA, AAA or AAAA)
It can also act as a stylus without any modification.
However, you can remove any insulated packaging if you want it to be more sensitive.

With the popularity of handheld electronics, we rarely stay away from some kind of battery.
The most interesting material that may be used to activate the capacitive touch screen is the sponge.
It works when you use the screen and can actually clean your screen.
But the sponge is too flexible to make a valid stylus like it is now.
The easiest way to solve this problem is to insert a sponge into a metal pen or other metal tube.
This gives it the shape to make it easier to use.
Cut off a sponge about 1/2 wide and about 3 miles long.
Pinch the end of the response and screw it into the bucket until you have 1/2-
Insert at the end.
Make sure the sponge is deep enough to have good contact with the metal case.
Then use a pair of scissors to trim off the tip of the sponge.
This helps to make the stylus more accurate.
The only problem is that the sponge will not work if it is completely dry.
The water in the sponge helps to charge.
So you need to get the sponge wet again on a regular basis.
It does not need to be soaked, the sponge is flexible as long as it is moist enough.
Although most office supplies are either too small (
Like a paper clip)or too large (
Such as stapler and punching machine)
For the convenience of being used as a stylus, there are quite a few that work well.
Some examples of metal office supplies are scissors with metal handles, name tag clips, binder or unbroken staples.
The best way to figure out what works is to open your office supply drawer and start trying something different.
Anything wrapped in foil can work as a stylus.
A pencil or pen packed with foilis may be the simplest example.
Just tear off a piece for about 3-4 incheslong.
Then roll it onto the pencil and leave the foil about 1 inch outside the eraser.
When it is rolled up, fold this extra foil at the end.
Then fold any sharp end.
In order to finish the smoothing of the end, you may want to press it on the table on all sides to make sure the end is flat without any sharp edges.
The creases foil should be kept in place, but if you fix the foil with tape, make sure there is enough exposed foil to keep good contact with your hand.
If the stylus is less responsive, you may want to adjust the shape of the tip by pressing it into a different shape or rearranging it.
There are many other materials that can be used to activate the capacitive touch screen.
There are only a few here.

Static film porous material is a wet material made of a metal with a suitable shape. This is just a short list of some materials that can work.
No matter where you lie, you can try it at will.
If you think of a material that is particularly interesting, please leave a comment and share it.
